Few winemakers command the respect of Michel Chapoutier, the Rhône Valley legend behind icons like Hermitage La Mordorée and Côtes-du-Rhône Belleruche. Known for his perfectionism and deep commitment to biodynamic farming, Chapoutier brought that same philosophy to Ribera del Duero with the creation of Dominio del Soto. Working closely with local growers, his goal was to show that Tempranillo can express Burgundian precision and Rhône-like texture when treated with restraint and respect. The result is a wine that bridges cultures: French technique meets Spanish soul.
Dominio del Soto’s vineyards lie in the village of Sotillo de la Ribera, high on the northern plateau of Castilla y León, where ancient limestone and clay soils meet cool mountain air from the Sierra de la Demanda. Vines average 30–40 years old, producing small, thick-skinned berries with natural concentration. The high altitude - nearly 900 meters above sea level - creates dramatic day-night temperature swings, preserving acidity and giving the wine its lift and tension. Grapes are hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts in concrete vats, and aged 12 months in French oak barrels (20 % new), allowing purity and terroir to shine through.
