Tasting Notes: This outstanding Malbec is produced from 100+ year old vines. It was aged for 12 months in French Oak barrels. The result is a complex wine with cedary aromas that lead into flavors of plums, currant, and berries. It is well balanced, with soft tannins and an elegant finish.
“A very assertive play of oak delivers plenty of immediately complex spice, played across bell peppers, violets, blueberries, and graphite. So much on offer here. The palate is wrapped in rich, smooth-honed tannin and has a deep, intense feel and a ripe, mouth-filling, red-plum finish.” – 91 Points, James Suckling
Juan Ignacio Belasco was born in Viana, Spain to a family of distillers. In the late 1980s, Juan entered the wine business in Navarra Spain, and several years later he became infatuated with Malbec. With the assistance of renowned wine consultant and former Mouton Rothschild head winemaker Bertrand Bourdil, he explored Argentina in search of exceptional vineyards to create wines. In 2003, Juan and his son Mikel began construction on Belasco de Baquedano. Their first vintage was produced in 2008. Juan passed away in 2017, but Mikel continues his father’s passion and creates some of the finest Malbec wines in the world.
