Joe Wagner, scion of the same Wagner family that makes Caymus, has made his name producing bold, nuanced Pinot Noirs from unique vineyard sites and regions across California. Oeil de Perdrix, French for "Eye of the Partridge," is a traditional winemaking term for this style of seductively colored rose. To capture this shade along with the wine's crisp acidity and bold berry flavors, whole clusters of Sonoma Pinot Noir are lightly pressed to extract only the purest juice. During and after fermentation, the wine has brief contact with French Oak barrels to add complexity, roundness, and texture.
This luxuriously silky wine opens with a bouquet of ripe strawberries, raspberries, and watermelon, which are accented on the palate by notes of rose petals and orange blossom. Vibrant acidity and a subtle layer of spice lead into a long, balanced finish.
