For the month of November we are featuring a unique wine from Macedonia, made from the grape Rkaciteli (pronounced “reh-KATS-sih-tellee”. The “r” is pronounced, but only lightly. This grape varietal originally hails from the Republic of Georgia, where you will see it spelled Rkatsiteli. While the Rkatsiteli wines of Georgia tend to ferment on the skins, yielding an amber colored wine with the tannin structure of a red wine, this Macedonian wine is made in a more traditional white wine style. The result is a fresh, yet weighty, straw colored wine, with white flesh fruit notes and a zingy acidity.
