The inaugural 2022 vintage of ‘The Dude’ rose is an outstanding example of pink Pinot Noir. Bright aromas of red fruits, flowers, and citrus waft out of the glass enticingly. Juicy flavors of strawberry, raspberry, watermelons, and cranberries promote fruitiness, and yet hints of magnolia add intriguing complexity. This dry, pale pink wine offers a light to medium body leading into a long, lingering finish that vibrates with sensational minerality. Though the flavors pack a punch, it is delicate and elegant.
Canepa Koch is a boutique microwinery out of Napa and the Russian River Valley. It’s a collaboration between Mark Canepa and Neil Koch, who met nearly 20 years ago and worked together at Napa’s prestigious Seguin-Moreau cooperage (a barrel-making artisan). Today, Mark uses his experience to source only the best local barrels for their wines. Although Neil could do the same job, he prefers to focus on wine production. His impressive viticulture pedigree includes stints at Seavey Vineyards, Bryant Family, and Vineyard 29 under the supervision and tutelage of renowned winemaker Philip Mela. Additionally, before breaking off into Canepa Koch, Neil was the enologist and assistant winemaker at Lewis Cellars, a Napa legend.
